If your back is injured then you can expect to have back pain for some time afterward; for most people, their only concern is to receive back pain relief medication to dull the pain. Pain relief is possible with the medications available but that is all they do and the reason for the pain continues. Many people with spinal problems become addicted to the medication that relieves the back pain but this should really be the responsibility of a doctor.

It is not difficult to injure your back, especially if you are a manual worker but long term problems can also be the result of an accident; it is not uncommon for a person to cause permanent damage from just lifting something incorrectly. The most common way to injure your back though is by lifting badly, it is usually recognized immediately by a sharp pain at the base of the spine. Fortunately there area number of natural back pain relief remedies that can help without a reliance on prescription medication.

Stretching can be effective at reducing back as it relaxes the muscles which are often tense. Another type of treatment called reflexology uses a massage technique applied to the feet; it is a very old natural therapy which helps to relieve many chronic ailments in addition to back pain. Relaxing muscles and increasing the effectiveness of the circulatory system are two other reasons to use reflexology.

The Chinese medical art of acupuncture can also be used to help bring back pain relief, something which has only been recognized a short while in the West. The Chinese believe we all have this special energy force flowing through us and when we become sick it doesn’t flow correctly. By inserting needles in specific parts of the body, it can help to unblock qi and restore the flow. Like reflexology, acupuncture seems to be used by people who suffer with chronic conditions like back pain which requires relief.

Tai Chi is also another ancient Chinese discipline which is basically a type of exercise similar to yoga except it is slower. Tai Chi focuses on breathing techniques and is a great way to relax your back. Whilst it involves some stretching and breathing exercises it is not too strenuous which means that anyone, young or old can take part in Tai Chi. Natural back pain relief should really start with more frequent exercise; it would be a shame to forget the benefits that exercise can provide generally.
